Tough Enough???

Mac book strong? Good joke ! Today I accidentally dropped my mac book on the floor , the first time I have ever had anything bad happen to it, it wasn’t a forceful hit and was only from about 3 feet high, the chord slowed the fall tremendously but it still managed to hit the ground. Now its making weird sounds and running a lot slower and I can imagine this hit to ground be costly for me. This brings me to my next point, mac books are arguably the best laptops on the current market but they have no protective system, one fall and your precious mac is ruined . I think it is time for apple to make a more rugged mac book. I think that apple’s technology is too advanced to not have something more rugged. I would love to see a Macbook that is well padded and can still operate smoothly. It doesn’t have to be that much of a change just through some “otter box” type material around it. Weather you’re a college student that has a tendency to drop their laptop or a solider in the army that doesn’t have time for a whimpy laptop, I feel that if any company can deliver its apple.

  1. I think we can all cringe a little bit when we read this story. I can feel your pain. I have dropped my previous laptop before. Laptops can be great on the go but all have their weaknesses. I really cannot foresee a rigidly built computer for the public. I know the military has one. It would be great for some company to come in and dominate that market but I feel that it is just too expensive to the average consumer.

  2. It is hard to hear that a laptop that has all of your important information could have the potential to be dropped and ruined. I have a mac book as well and can relate to the hard it has given me. I love the mac book but it does have its moments of getting me frustrated. I have a protected case over mine but still it will find a way to be ruined. We pay so much money for these pride and joys you would think that protection would be first on their list when selling the mac books.

  3. I just really dislike Mac Books. First off they are not very user friendly, and just as Jason said they are very delicate! I have a PC laptop and have had tremendous luck with it. I never have problems, and its very user friendly. I am not the kind of person that needs user friendly computers, I do know my way around PCs and Mac Books. However as a whole PC is just an easier computer to use. I have also dropped my laptop at least 4 times. 1 time it fell off my kitchen counter, and guess what it still works like a charm. PCs are just more durable.

  4. Dropping and breaking my laptop is definitely a fear of mine. My laptop has basically my whole life on it and I wouldn't have a clue what to do if I lost any of the information on it. Even though I have one of the first mac laptops that mac came out with, it doesn't work all that bad but just because of how old it is and how far mac has gone with the newer laptops, it would be great if mac could come up with a case or something to put around your laptop just for these accidents. I am usually careful when it comes to my laptop and I'm sure everyone else is too but people make mistakes and we can always find a way to drop something so a protection case is definitely something mac should consider.

  5. Dropping a laptop is by far one of the most upsetting thing that can happen. I do not own a MacBook, however I do own a laptop that I love most dearly. I believe it is time for Laptop companies to enhance their durability. The company that shifts focus on the durability of their product will be a few steps ahead of competitors. I wonder who will be first to exploit this wonderful marketing opportunity?

  6. I for one do not own a Macbook but my girlfriend does. I have used it many times before to the point where I'm comfortable using it's Operating System and want my next laptop to be a Mac. I recently saw the new commercial out for the Macbook Air and I have to say, it looks pretty amazing. After reading this article though, I wonder why Apple doesn't make the investment into stronger laptops. I remember the commercials out for the Toshiba laptops that can brace themselves when they detect they're falling. I know Apple seems to be all about making things as light and small as possible, but I feel they might be able to get a larger share of the laptop industry if they can make laptops that provide a decent level of durability. I mean, you can't find a new Macbook for less than $1500 really can you? What is our money paying for?

  7. Thank you guys so much for your input! @ Ryan , i agree that for 1500 dollars the least apple could do is give it a little bit more protection.
I think that the more companies compete to make their laptops more portable the further away from durability they will grow.
